barack obaob obama

"I inhaled, that was the point."

a politician that tells the TRUTH? willl wonders never cease.
i usually despise touching on politics as a discussion topic unless it's about one of a select few topics [stem cells/ science]. my dim view on the whole system boils down to choosing the lesser of two evils when it comes to election time, and things are argued for far too long before action is taken..and *then* it's usually the wrong decision anyway.
but i digress- this barack guy; it seems like we have an actual 'good guy' in our midsts. WILDLY popular to an almost absurd level, it's really no surprise people are clamoring for him to run for president in '08. bravo to him for considering it in the first place.. but come on. he's a junior senator with about 2 years under his belt; that's barely a track record on which to establish ones' self.. would we *want* an inexperienced president? now what *i've* been thinking is.. how come nobodys thought of him as being a solid running mate? maybe its a lack of comparable candidates.. but it makes sense in my mind anyway- he gets vp.. 4, even 8 years later.. *then* thinking about a bid for commander in chief.
seems sensible to me. whatever. otoh- this country could USE a drastic, sweeping change with the next presidency. whatever happens should finally be interesting.

i miss techtv

f'n comcast. their crappy g4 'gamers' network had to take it over, and seriously screw up every good piece of programming they didn't cancel. and now they sucked SO badly, comcast is folding THEIR crappy ass programming into the E! network.. home of a bunch of celebrity/garbage/throwaway 'reality' things and those "[variable a]'s most [variable b]'s moments" shows.. only good thing about this is Morgan Webb moving to a more popular channel. ;)
oh. E! runs the SNL reruns, right? ok, they aren't ALL that bad. but STILL: suck it, g4.

[reprinted from here]

Frustrated by their government's position on the environment, climate change and stem cell research, a group of US scientists have decided to take matters into their own hands and actively promote the election of a president in 2008 who is more receptive to science.

Scientists and Engineers for America plunged into politics last week with the aim of campaigning for particular candidates, starting with the 2006 mid-term elections. SEA says that "scientists and engineers have a right, indeed an obligation, to enter the political debate when the nation's leaders systematically ignore scientific evidence and analysis."

SEA's main targets will be the Bush administration and the Republican leadership, says executive director Mike Brown. "[They] are the source of a lot of the problems we've identified."

So far, the pitch has struck a responsive chord. Within days of the group being announced on27 September, nearly 2500 people had signed up as members. SEA's advisory board includes two of Bill Clinton's former science advisers - John Gibbons and Neal Lane - and eight Nobel laureates.

..why i so </3 the current administration. an excerpt:
Howards says he was taking two of his kids to their Suzuki piano camp in Beaver Creek, Colorado. They were walking across the outdoor public mall area when all of a sudden he saw Cheney there.

“I didn’t even know he was in town,” Howards says. “He was walking through the area shaking hands. Initially, I walked past him. Then I said to myself, ‘I can’t in good conscience let this opportunity pass by.’ So I approached him, I got about two feet away, and I said in a very calm tone of voice, ‘Your policies in Iraq are reprehensible.’ And then I walked away.”

Howards says he knew the Administration has a “history of making problems” for people who protest its policies, so he wanted to leave off at that.

But the Secret Service did not take kindly to his comment.
